    In response to recent allegations of sexual abuse by high-ranking clergy, Bishop Edward B. Scharfenberger issued the following statement to his fellow U.S. bishops Aug. 6.
  • Catholic News Service reports that "Pope Francis has ordered a revision of the Catechism of the Catholic Church to assert that 'the death penalty is inadmissible because it is an attack on the inviolability and dignity of the person.'" Bishop Edward B. Scharfenberger and Deacon Walter Ayres of the diocesan Commission on Peace and Justice offer their comments.
  • New veterans’ group wants to help Schenectady vets

    Inside the parish center at St. Luke’s in Schenectady, a group of local veterans chat amongst themselves. Tables are pushed together, and the men and women sit down for the third installment of St. Luke’s veterans’ support group. Still in its infancy, the group was created to establish a network of support for veterans and help local veterans in need.
