  • Funeral homily promises peace for those lost in tragic accident
    A funeral Mass was offered Oct. 13 at St. Stanislaus parish in Amsterdam for eight of the 20 victims of a tragic limousine crash in Schoharie.
    Remembered in prayer were the four King sisters, their husbands and the brother of one of the husbands: Mary King Dyson and Robert Dyson, Allison King, Abigail King Jackson and Adam Jackson, Amy King Steenburg and Axel Steenburg, and Richard Steenburg Jr.
  • Michael Joseph Page loved cats, collecting model cars and caring for others. A loving son and brother, Mr. Page — who passed away in June from pulmonary fibrosis — left behind a gift that has helped to feed the hungry at the Sister Maureen Joyce Center food pantry in Albany.
    ST. ANTHONY'S PARISH in Schenectady celebrated  "El Señor de los Milagros" — the Lord of Miracles — with a special Mass Oct. 7, followed by an outdoor procession and reception. The Lord of Miracles is the patron of the county of Peru and its capital, Lima.

    Roberta Lacey of St. John the Baptist parish in Walton is proof that age is just a number. At 93, Mrs. Lacey is working hard to plan a Rosary rally for her parish and town.

  • Some victims of limo crash had Catholic connections
    Among the 20 people killed in a devastating limousine accident Oct. 6 in Schoharie were several victims who had connections to parishes, schools and Catholic organizations of the Albany Diocese.
    FILIPINO CATHOLICS in the Albany Diocese gathered last weekend for a special liturgy at Christ Our Light Church in Loudonville to mark the feast day of St. Lorenzo Ruiz, a 17th-century saint who is the patron of the Philippines and its people.
    THE 150TH ANNIVERSARY of the Church of the Annunciation in Ilion was celebrated last weekend with Mass with Bishop Edward B. Scharfenberger. The parish also had an anniversary dinner, a display of memorabilia and a slide show on its history.

    “You are my inspiration,” Bishop Edward B. Scharfenberger told the more than 3,000 Catholics last weekend at the Albany Diocese's Hearts Aflame Eucharistic Congress. He called the event a “Catholic Super Bowl.”
