  • Why we’re sending Anna to a Catholic school
When it came time for our daughter to begin school, my wife and I discussed our options at length. Living in an excellent school district, we had multiple options to consider as to where we should send Anna for her education.
  • The scavenger hunt for school supplies
It’s that glorious season when your beloved children will soon become, for six hours a day, someone else’s responsibility. That’s not without a price, fellow parents on the journey: First, you must go through the wringer that is known as “back to school.”

  • Assisted suicide legislation has fatal flaws
The legal flaws in the so-called “Medical Aid in Dying Act” assisted suicide legislation pose real dangers to the public and to vulnerable patients. In our view, there is no way to fix this legislation, and we will oppose any bill that would legalize physician-assisted suicide.
  • Bill would help parents who miscarry early

When parents lose a child to miscarriage, says labor and delivery nurse Sharon Hoffman, “you can never take away their pain.”

But it brings back some level of control, she says, when they can at least bury their child.
  • Special anniversary of Marriage Jubilee
On Oct. 1, Bishop Edward B. Scharfenberger celebrated the 45th annual diocesan Marriage Jubilee Mass at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception in Albany.
  • In 1921, a young Italian who would someday be the prime minister of Italy, Alcide DeGaspari, wrote an impassioned letter to the woman he intended to marry, Francesca Romani. It was a marriage proposal in artful prose.
